Any moderately sturdy bright to semi-reflective surface used to direct light from a source and bounce it onto the subject. Used frequently to help even out bright sunlight or with a gold or silver surface to help shift the color of a subject.

You can purchase very nice bounce cards from a photography shop, but a simple 2'x6'2'x3' piece of white foam core (foamboard) will do just fine for starters.
